GnuCash 1.7.5 never displays

I thought I would jump in and try this to see how some of the new
features work. I'm running on a more-or-less up-to-date RedHat 7.2
system and was running GnuCash 1.6.2. I uninstalled 1.6.2, installed
g-wrap 1.3.2 and gnucash 1.7.5.

The install went quite smoothly, none of the upgrade hell that
previous versions have required! Very nice.

Then I tried to launch gnucash from my desktop icon. After waiting a
few minutes, I tried again. After a few minutes, still nothing, so I
opened an xterm and tried running it manually. I got a message about
the last and next stable versions, then nothing. I waited a couple of
minutes, looking at the near-zero CPU then finally did a 'ps -ef |
grep gnucash' only to see nothing! I tried 'ps -efwww | grep gnucash'
and found all three processes sitting there. I killed them all off
thinking they had hung because the last time I ran gnucash I had an
unexpected system shutdown (UPS shutdown) and there was a lock file
which needed to be cleaned up. I removed it and retried running
manually from the xterm. Same story; I got the message about the next
and previous stable versions, then nothing. I've waited about 10
minutes now while I composed this message and ran to get a cup of
coffee.

Any tips on figuring out why nothing appears on my screen?
