This has been reported several times by people using Debian. So this is a 
problem either with the Debian gnucash packages or even with Debian itself. 
On SuSE (which I'm running) and RedHat with self-compiled packages everything 
seems to be fine. How did you install your gnucash package? If you haven't 
compiled it yourself, please try to do so now. 

Gnucash comes with a 100% German translation. So if you have LANG=de_DE, *all* 
messages should be in German. If they are not, something in your installation 
is broken. For example, the current translation file de.gmo might have been 
installed in a non-default location while an old translation file de.gmo 
still hangs around in some default location. As I said, I don't have debian, 
so these are just wild guesses. As for the gnucash side, we've fixed all 
there has been to fix.
