gnucash & Gnome2

Maybe a made a mistake! I've worked with gnucash 1.8.1 happy and content.
Yesterday I upgraded to Ximian-Gnome 2 and after that gnucash didn't start
anymore! After searching the mailing list (well, I know a bit late...) I
found out that you work on a gnome2 version. Now I browsed thru Ximian updates
and found an update: gnucash 1.6.6-3.ximian.2 I'm well aware that this is
an very old version, but this seams to work with gnome2. Can somebody please
explain to me, how come?
