Yes. Already did that.
The only real problem with that is I still am not able to compile gnucash. I
have finally given up on compiling gnucash on FC3 and upcoming FC4.
Why compile under FC3? I don't want to compile gnucash, but I do want custom
reports. Some time back somebody outlined a means of developing custom
reports for gnucash. The method necessitated customizing a standard report
with options, etc. Exiting gnucash without deleting the report, then editing
the report file that gnucash created. Copying the editied file to the
appropriate gnucash source directory (after './configure' has been executed
to set up the make files), executing 'make' and 'make install' in that
directory alone so that the new "custom" report is compiled and installed and
not the entire gnucash.
Now all of that fails miserably under FC for the simple reason of gtk+ 1.2
dependence of gnucash and that the './configure' step will never work under
gnome 2.0 and gtk+2.0. I crashed the machine horribly twice and had to
re-install from scratch to learn the very hard way that gtk+1.2 and gtk+2.0
cannot reside peacefully on the same machine without some special voodoo and
maybe not even then.
Thus, until gnucash is imported to gnome 2.0 and gtk+2.0, compiled custom
reports are not feasible under FC3 or FC4. At least not without some very
special voodoo to keep 1.2 and 2.0 versions from horribly mangling the
system.
Thus, in at least this way gnucash is rapidly getting left behind. I do not
want to open a discussion on the value of importing to 2.0 (I have no doubt
that all of the developers have been through that more than they want and
there are very valid reasons for the way things are going and I deeply
respect that).
I have somewhat solved the problem of the "compiled" custom report. I have
adopted the procedure that I have opened a standard report and modified it
according to what I want with the various options. I then just leave the
report active in gnucash. Thus, every time I boot gnucash, the report is
there and updated. Also, I can update the report at any time by simply
opening the report tab on the left, and clicking the 'refresh' icon on the
top toolbar. This way I keep all of the "custom" reports I want "active" all
the time under gnucash and don't need the "compiled" versions.
Once I noticed that 1.8.xx keeps reports in this manner, I no longer really
needed to "compile" the custom reports.
The ability to create really original and custom reports is still not
available in gnuash, but, at least for me, not all that pressing any more.
