of course you can help with gnucash and the related projects, regardless of 
what the GSoC program decides.

As usual for an Open Source project: Just pick the part you think needs 
improvement the most. Feel free to start working on the OFX DirectConnect 
part. You already stated you have a bank account at a bank that offers 
DirectConnect access:

In that case, I would suggest you should try to set up this OFX access to your 
bank account. You should be able to get statement download working. Once this 
is working, you should try to identify whether online money transfer is 
possible, if that's what you're interested in, and see which parts in gnucash 
or libaqbanking or libofx might still be missing for this.
