Investment Transactions

I just imported everything from Quicken.  In Quicken invest transactions 
are forever  (Note: generally I think this is a good thing).  I have 4 
years worth of investment transactions, but only one year worth of current 
transactions.  Thus my balances are way, way out wack.  It would pretty 
easy for me to update the invest transactions from previous years to come 
from a different account, but that seems to be only a shortterm solution. 
How should this be handled in GNUCash?  I definitely don't want to give up 
the invest history.  If I want to sell things on a FIFO basis for tax 
purposes I have to have all of the purchase records.  But I don't really 
want to keep all of other transactions forever either.  Is there a "right" 
way to do this?  Or at least a way that one of you has found successful?
