upgrade from 1.5.6 to 1.6.x?

Hi,

I'm currently using Gnucash 1.5.6 (no problems with stability so far) and
wonder whether I should upgrade to the 1.6.x series. But before I start
to change my running system ;-) I'd like to know two things:

1. How about features: Would changing to 1.6.x really be an upgrade?
2. Will I have to master the dependency hell once again, or do I already
have the required versions to replace my 1.5.6?
