Huh? Gtk-2 is just as C as gtk-1.4 is. The porting issues with 
gnome2/gtk2 have absolutely nothing to do with the programming language.

I see the missing Umlauts (in german) all the time. I totally agree the 
gnome2/gtk2 port is the next big thing to be done. But I know I won't 
have time to work on it, unfortunately.
