One way to crash gnucash 1.8.4

Start gnucash.

Close any reports you have open until only the "Accounts" tab remains
in the left hand column.

Select Menu:File:Open In a new Window
(this will cause your account tree to be displayed in a second window)

Return focus to the (now empty) first window and select Menu:File:New
Account...

After a few seconds I see a new window labeled "Error" with a close
button and text as follows:

Application "strange symbols" (process 1209) has crashed
due to fatal error.
(bus error)

Please visit the GNOME Application Crash Page for more information

The line above appears to be a clickable link but clicking on it has no
effect.

[I note that selecting Menu:New instead of Menu:File:New Account...
successfully opens the new account setup panel although I don't know
what happens if you actually then use that panel.]

I don't know if this crash causes any data corruption. I have only
tried it with a test file. If someone can reproduce this on a test
file I will be happy to make a bug report.

I am using gnucash 1.8.4 from fink on macosx 10.2.5 with apple x window
system 0.2.1

Cheers,

Richard
