How to upgrade gnucash to 1.8.9 on OSX

I've searched archives and wikis but cannot figure how to upgrade to 1.8.9.  
Gnucash is my first venture into open source. I managed to get it installed 
thru the help of folks who documented the process so well, but now I'm 
stuck.

currently running gnucash 1.8.8
osx 10.3.4
