Split Transactions involving Stocks and bank accounts don't work

Hello,

I'm running into a strange problem with GnuCash 1.8.9 in Debian. I
sold some stock for the first time and I followed the example at:
http://www.gnucash.org/docs/v1.8/C/gnucash-guide/invest_sell1.html. It
works fine, but the funds I transferred into my bank account don't
show up. I see the split transaction line but no funds appear on the
line (or anything really, even after clicking the split button, I see
each line of the transaction but no Deposits/Withdrawals are
shown). Everything appears correctly if I view the transaction in the
stock account's ledger.

Has anyone ever seen this? Let me know if there's something you need
to help better diagnose this problem.
