Wont load (appears to be from a newer version) error

I tried to open gnucash and it stoped with an error message that said 
"This file/URL appears to be from a newer version of GnuCash. You must 
upgrade your version of GnuCash to work on this data" I had saved and 
closed gnucash like I have always done before the prevous time. I tried 
to open all the  *.log and *.xac with the same results. I was using 
version 1.8.9 on Fedora3 x86_64 I upgraded to version 1.8.11 using 
Frdora rpm. The results were the same. Help how can I get my data back.
