SQL Backend

I just have a queery about this SQL backend.

Can anyone tell me if it enables me to modify my account data using a
3rd party program such as OpenOffice? I have already been printing paper
invoices using OO and would like to extend it so that I don't have to
enter the information twice.

Will the back end allow me to do this or am I wasting my time trying to
compile and install it?

Has anyone done this or something similar?
