Thanks!  I removed the rpm I loaded, and loaded the one you mention -
everything works now!

Oh.  Wrong RPM.  You need a gnucash binary built specifically for FC5.
This one isn't it.   You might want to try the RPM at:

  http://people.redhat.com/notting/gnucash/
