unable to read gnucash file

Hi,

editing the xml file and replacing the wrong dates, i got gnucash to
read the file in again. 

There are 2 things i'm wondering, 
* how did these dates get into the file and
* whi does gnucash not show a dialog stating the problem and perhaps
offer to fix the dates?
