Well, again, that's really weird.

It might be useful if you could provide a list of very explicit steps to
reproduce, starting from a new/empty file by starting with
`gnucash --nofile`.

It might help if you're less terse than you have been in this thread.
Exactly what do you enter?  Do you use the numbers above the keyboard or the
keypad?  Do you use the tab/arrow keys to move between splits, or use the
mouse?  Exactly what menu items are you selecting?  Do you select menu items
with the keyboard accelerators or the mouse?  &c. …
