Checks print with black bar in place of Payee name

You may have to do a custom layout of how you want the check to print. I too am new to Gnucash from Quickbooks. I tried the check printing in GC and didn't find it to be satisfactory. Part of the problem is that I buy blank stock and as far as I have found GC won't print the details of the account like my name and address, the bank's name and address, or the routing number and account number. I was able to do this in QB. Like I say, I am new to GC. I have just touched the surface and have much to learn. None of the linux distros that I use have the latest version of GC. Not sure how many more features might be added since 2.2.5.

Payee section of the check. The date and both the numeric and spelled-out
versions of the amount print correctly, but not the transaction's
Description line (which the Help file says is supposed to be what fills in
the Payee section of the check).

I'm running GNUcash 2.2.7 on WinXP/SP3. Any ideas why this behavior is
appearing, or what I might do to correct it?
