How to customize Invoice for printing

I agree with all the comments that the invoice creator needs
improvement badly. 

You can get the improved functionality that will be available in the
next version of GnuCash if you install the beta.

I declined to install the beta. Instead I fabricated a workaround. I
generate the invoice as best I can with the functionality present in
the current version of GnuCash. With the Print Invoice window open I
select all, copy to the clipboard, then paste into a template that I
created in OpenOffice.org Writer. This template gives me my company
logo and address at the top. It also contains two macros that I
recorded. The macros completely reformat the data pasted in from
GnuCash so that my invoice is professional and exactly the way I need
it.

It took me about three hours to figure this out and record the macros. 

Once I have the invoice in OpenOffice.org Writer I can export to PDF so
I can e-mail it to the customer, or I can print it and snail mail it to
the customer or include it in the box with the product.
