With the scripting in jGnucashLib I have set up something a few years
back using 1 currency per type of product.
Thus under assets(Aktiva)->circulating assets(Umlaufvermögen)->Goods
I have sub-accounts in euro for each product and each of them
has 1 sub-account in the currency for that product. Both the value
and the count of each product is kept balanced with a bit of one-time-
effort in writing the scripts that automatically import orders and
invoices.

Thus Gnucash does financial bookkeeping and inventory-management
at the same time and all the numbers that could ever be needed are
in there.
