For what it's worth, I've been using GnuCash for years on Linux.  I've  
gone through several versions, including beta versions, and several OS  
upgrades.  I've also gone from the old flat xml file to a sqlite backend.   
And I have *never* had it corrupt a data file.  (And if it matters, I do  
not use online banking.)
