Showing "Memos" and "Notes"

Dear list,

I noticed that it is possible to sort ledger entries by "Memos" and "Notes", and that you can 
import memos during ofx imports. However, how do I make them visible in the ledger? My 
column headings are presently Date, Num, Description, Transfer, R, Decrease, Increase, 
and Balance. There do not appear to be options under the view or general preference menus 
to activate memo and notes columns?
