Fast data entry possible?

I have four months of cash transactions to transfer from my home-grown spreadsheet system to Gnucash.  The hand input is rather tedious, each transaction requires not only data entry, but then clicking on account lists to get the right one.  For instance, I have 20 transactions a month for Groceries — isn't there a way to batch them (Cash in Wallet + Grocery Expense) for input using a csv file or some such?
