Create sub-account to existing account with entries

There is nothing which prevents a parent account from having entries when a subaccount has entries.  However, my practice has been that only leaf accounts have entries.

Subject: Create sub-account to existing account with entries

I need to add a sub account to an existing checking account, to keep
track of a certain category of $$ flows.

I notice in the Help documents that it says that the super-accounts
don't have entries. So what happens to the existing entries in that
checking account when I create the sub account?

Thanks.
