Check printing in windows?

David--

Thomas has it right; the primary developers do not use Windows. The one developer who manages the Windows stuff (Geert) is in Europe and doesn't use checks at all, as far as I know.

It is unfortunate for Windows users that this is the case, since it is clear from reading the lists that there are a number of issues in using Gnucash under Windows. Since Gnucash was originally built under Linux, and most of the developers work in that realm, support is much stronger for those bugs.

Checking Bugzilla on this, I see a number of different bugs that seem to relate to this; the one that most directly discusses it is https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=631611. That bug notes the way to fix the problem, but most of the contributions are from various end users, and it doesn't look like any developer has taken it on. Someone would need to test the fix and submit a patch to the bug for it to get incorporated into the distributed application.

For the same reason, I think, that any bug would languish.  There is no
developer using windows that also uses check printing.

Personally I spent a long time moving off of windows, with financial
software being the last thing that held me back.  I would have settled for
anything suitable, but with GnuCash I found a solution that was much better
than what I was using (QB).

The sense that I get is that most GnuCash users don't understand why people
still use checks (Europe?), or for strictly personal use, their check book
won't fit into their printer (Everywhere?).  Yet I, you, and many others,
consider it to be an essential feature.

As far as I know, it is only windows that has the problem.  Check printing
seems to work 'normally' for Linux and OSX.
