If you copy the link to the current file, paste it into your browser
address bar, remove the filename and hit enter, you will find the
SourceForge directory listing lots of different downloads including
recent stable program releases.
There are lots of files that can cause more problems than you can shake
a stick at, so don't venture there unless you know exactly what you are
looking for.

I am currently running release 2.4.11 in Vista home edition on my
laptop, so you should be able to get it running. One thing to be aware
of is that if you last closed your data file with certain slow-running
reports open it may take many many minutes to re-open the file in a
machine that came with that antiquated OS. You may want to try making a
copy of your data file or a different data file or a backup file in your
data folder and double clicking it to force GnuCash to ignore previous
user settings. That is especially true for that long jump from .6 to
.11 as there were some significant changes made between those releases
that make it difficult to go back and forth between them.
