Can I change how GnuCash calculates sales tax?

Thank you all for your replies!

Since it appears that this is not an easy problem for developers to fix,
what is the best way to correct when it gives the error? Currently I either
fudge the prices to $4.985 from $4.99, for example, or if that doesn't work
I add a line item to the invoice for GST. Is there a better way I could be
doing this?
