I have windows XP (and no I don't use my phone for GNUcash, I just don't
have internet at home). I've read through the help manuals and all the FAQ's
nothing about printing.
If I do a screen shot of an open report showing the menu File open and send
it here will the jpeg show?

GnuCash will automatically attach the account code in the imported file
to the account that you choose, so no, it will not ask you to bind the
import-account to the gnucash account multiple times. The result is
that if you import a file with the same account code it will not ask
you, because according to the data source you are importing the same
account again.

There are two workaround to reset this (other that hand-editing the data
file):

1) Import a data file with a different (or bogus) account code and
re-select the account you want to reset.

2) Create a temp account, delete the account you want to reset, move all
the transactions to the temp account, and then rename the temp
account to the account you just deleted.

Yes, this is it. Forums are for Lusers.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking here. Perhaps you can use a
firm example? But by the statement of your question I would suggest
that you read the GnuCash Guide to better understand Double Entry
Accounting. I say this because your statement "Account A has $100"
doesn't make sense.

If your question is: Given a transaction that says to credit my checking
account $100, can I split that $100 into, e.g., $50 to
Expenses:Groceries and $50 to Expenses:Home Goods, the answer is no, you
cannot do that automatically, and OFX does not support Split
Transactions. The only import technology that supports that would be
QIF, but you would need to form the QIF file itself to declare the
transaction as a split transaction. GnuCash cannot auto-split a
transaction.

Have you tried File -> Print

But I don't understand your initial complaint -- when I'm sitting in an
account report the print button is active.

What version of GnuCash are you using? OS/Distro?

I have the latest version since I downloaded only 2-3 weeks ago. But the
print button under the menu file has never been active. I tried exporting to

MS word but that didn't work either.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant (except, of course, splitting to an author
and an illustrator).

Thank you for the answer.

I was hoping that GnuCash could 'learn' the split transactions the same way
it learns the top level ones (ie, the way the csv import is able to
'remember' what I did for a similar transaction --- an awesome feature which
is really working well for me).

Every item of deposit (each book sold) is split into smaller payments
(royalties), and I had wanted to show this as a split on each transaction.
(ie $100 comes in (Asset:Bank), showing 10 transactions of $10, and for
each, $4.50 goes to author (Liabilities:Royalties:Author), $4.50 to
illustrator (Liabilities:Royalties:Illustrator), and $1 to company
(Equity:Revenue)...)

Of course, now, it seems I'm being overly pedantic, and the right way (or,
at least, the way I'm going to do it) is to just do one transaction at the
end of each quarter, to disburse the money appropriately to the 3 accounts
(from Equity:Revenue:Book_Sales).

There is no version of GnuCash for 'Droid'. Please read the version
from the splash screen or the Help:About screen and tell Derek which
operating system that your computer uses. You might also consider
reading the fine manuals.
