Equity doesn't balance

Hi Carsten,

You are right, I am looking at the equity account where the opening balances 
are generated. I see my starting balance as of 1/1/13 from my savings and 
checking only, as a negative number.
I am using GnuCash for business purpuses so I do have income generated from 
the income-type accounts and they do show up in my assets, but they are not 
showing up in my equity.
Everything does balance like I mentioned before just nothing shows up in the 
equity account. I have a whole month worth of transactions, however now that 
I think about it
I haven't reconciled my accounts yet, is this perhaps the reason it doesn't 
show up in equity?

Hi Marty,

I think you should rather look at e.g. the Balance Sheet
(Reports->Asset&Liability).

If I get it right, you are looking at the equity accounts where the
opening balances are "generated", and they are meant to only show the
opening balances.
If you have additional income from the Income-type accounts into your
assets, your Equity will increase, but that will affect the equity
accounts. Instead, your equity (= assets - liabilities) it will be
calculated e.g. in the balance sheet report.
