Ok, when you look at this again, here's your next step to try:
Still assuming some filter being set, these filters are saved in a 
separate file, related to your data file.
A simple way to test if such a saved filter is at play would be to take 
these steps:

1. Close gnucash on your laptop
2. Rename your gnucash file via the Apple Finder. For example, call it 
"stbPCGnucas test 2.gnucash" instead of "stbPCGnucas test.gnucash"
3. Start gnucash
4. Open the renamed file.

Does it still hide the same transactions in your checkings register ?
