Practical because it does not need suppliers to add qr codes
containing the information to the receipts.  Which is not going to
happen in the near future.  For a start I doubt whether most existing
POS printers could produce qr codes.

It would not require the steps you describe.  An extension to gnucash
mobile could use the camera to take the photo and then it could
extract the data.  All you would have to enter is the same data that
you would have to for the qr code.
