Thanks Geert,

The commands opened yelp but could not load the page.

the command line returned several lines; here are the first two.

(yelp:17603): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_tool_button_new: assertion 
`icon_widget == NULL || GTK_IS_MISC (icon_widget)' failed

(yelp:17603): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance

I will try and work with this some more later today or this week.  I 
think you are on to something.  I may try reinstalling gnucash.
