This is worthy of a bug report. It’s probably a gdk key-handling problem. If you can get a stack trace (http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Stack_Trace) on it after lock-up that would help a lot; also, attach a tracefile (http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile) to the bug.
