GnuCash terminates it in an unusual way

The first thing would be to provide some more details, like when does it crash? Are there any messages in the tracefile (http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile)?

The best information on a crash comes from a stack trace (http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Stack_Trace) but we realize that that's hard to produce on MS Windows.

Can you test with 2.6.3, 4, and 5 to find the earliest version that crashes?
