Issues with an Opening Balance in GnuCash

Re: Editing Opening Balances, I have seen this problem for decades with
many acct packages. I never enter opening balances.

I have learned to create a series of journal entries in the first month
or month zero, with the balances that I am carrying forward from the
previous fiscal period. Needing to start a new accounting period
usually is not an option. The rent must be paid on the first, period.
So I set up my "beginning balances" journal entries, and when I do my
closing entries, which affect assets/liabilities, for the prior period,
I enter what I know, and I can go back and edit them later.

Hope this helps,
John

Ever since I uploaded my data into GnuCash from 2014 the system generated an opening balance of $ (1,552,869.32) that has not changed in value. Is there any way to allow the system to properly account for this balance?
