This exchange is what I find confusing; Paul replied beneath my post, and
David replied above.

It sounds like the convention is below, so I'll stick with that for the
time being.

I guess this topic got a lot of responses because people feel strongly
enough about it to offer an opinion.

I don't think the rules can be "imposed", but if  there were something in
the header or if there was something in the monthly reminder about the
etiquette of posting, that would be a big help to users that there is a
"right" way to post.
