[GNC] Can't import .qif files from quicken since latest update

That's not always the case. Some brokerages (Schwab, for example) pull the money into an account directly, from which shares are purchased at some later date. It's essentially a cash based asset account, but it doesn't appear separately to the user.

One way to handle this is to place these transactions in the base brokerage account, which some on this list consider improper, since it puts transactions in a non-leaf account. Another way is to create a separate subaccount for these cash transactions.

Either way, the incoming cash would go to a basic asset account, which shouldn't trigger the error. It sounds from others like a recent update has caused trouble with the QIF importer.

[FWIW, if your direct to a money market fund doesn't include the proper N code in the QIF, it appears it wouldn't work either, based on the error presented.]
