10:51:57 <darkk> is there some feature to support transaction comissions? E.g. if I transfer money from Asset:Foo to Asset:Bar then 0.1% always goes to Expences::Foo-commission and $10 goes to Expences::Bar-commission.
10:52:25 <darkk> I know, I can fill split-transaction, but counting commission amounts is a bit uncool.
10:53:27 <jsled> Not as such. auto-fill will help, as well the fact you can do math [+-/*()] in the credit/debit cells.
10:54:05 <jsled> The scheduled transactions have a more complete "templating", including variables, but you then have to go through the scheduled transaction framework.
10:55:48 <darkk> transactions are not scheduled, but math may help a lot, I've not known about that.
10:58:16 <darkk> yes, that's much better than invoking `bc`, thanks
10:58:26 <jsled> Good.
10:58:31 <jsled> You're welcome.
10:59:03 <jsled> There's been talk about having a more reified version of auto-fill or template transactions for the register. Where you could enter one split, and the rest would be computed.
10:59:11 <jsled> But, E_NOIMPLMENTATIONEXISTS

11:03:08 <echinos> I'm going to try out gnucash for my business
11:03:24 <echinos> the ubuntu package is 2.2.1, is that old in a bad way?
11:05:09 <jsled> yeah, it's pretty old. 2.2.4 is better.
11:08:54 <echinos> ok, I'll go get the tarball
11:08:56 <echinos> thx
11:09:44 <echinos> I mainly want to use it for invoices, receipts, and keeping track of GST (ontario)
11:09:54 <echinos> well, canada
11:10:18 <darkk> btw, once I've seen an assert failure at /tmp/gnucash.trace, but that was one-line assert without any trace. was it bug that had to be submitted to bugzilla?
11:10:41 <warlord> darkk: maybe?
11:11:04 <warlord> echinos: there's a 2.2.4 backport package available
11:11:35 <echinos> where'ssat package?
11:11:51 <warlord> Read the -user and -devel archives. URLs were sent there.
11:11:58 <echinos> okie
11:12:04 <warlord> biab
11:12:21 <echinos> it would be slightly nicer to have it installed under the package manager :)
11:12:24 <jsled> http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Ubuntu maybe, too.
11:12:43 <jsled> Also, <http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building>
11:12:50 <jsled> Which has a Ubuntu section.

12:16:46 <echinos> gotta make my laptop go to Hardy for the backport, it seems
12:17:08 <echinos> oh, well, it's only 14 days till release anyway, should be nice and solid :/
12:31:24 <warlord> I didn't think that was required. I thoguht there was a real backport.
12:53:57 <echinos> well, i suppose it might not be, but the link jsled gave me said the backport was in hardy-backports
12:54:22 <echinos> s'ok, I need to upgrade anyway, and this isn't even the machine I'm going to be using it on permanently

17:24:09 <edavison> yes, I know. I usually have between 15 and 50 of them. They clutter of the directory.
17:24:17 <edavison> Any way to move them to a log directory?

17:31:06 <warlord> move your data file.
17:31:29 <warlord> There's no setting to put the logs/backups into a different directory than your datafile.
17:31:52 <warlord> So if it bothers you, put your data file into a subdirectory.

18:59:58 <warlord> "compaided"?
19:00:10 *** ErKa has quit IRC
19:00:39 <warlord> It all depends what features you need.
19:02:01 <DGMurdockIII> dose it support the quickboox format
19:02:09 <DGMurdockIII> book
19:02:17 <warlord> No
19:02:30 <warlord> You cannot import (or write) a QBW or IIF.
19:02:36 <warlord> The format is proprietary
19:03:13 <DGMurdockIII> i just wanted to import my quckbooks data
19:05:43 <warlord> there might be a way to convert from iif to qif

22:08:58 <curiouskim> i'm wondering how to change the date on a report (to only see the numbers for certain months instead of the whole year)
22:09:12 <curiouskim> thank you!

22:12:51 <curiouskim> thank you!
22:13:51 <curiouskim> the stupid thing is i just figured it out after submitting my question, even though i've been playing around for the half hour previous trying to remember how i did it before!

22:24:54 <warlord> USA
22:25:29 <curiouskim> i'm canadian but currently in georgia (the state, not the country)
22:25:35 <curiouskim> have a great nite!
22:27:13 <warlord> You too.
22:27:16 <warlord> Glad you got it working.
22:29:36 <Schroeder> where can I find libgoffice?
22:32:17 <warlord> Schroeder: what OS/Distro?
22:32:29 <Schroeder> it's Linux
22:32:32 <Schroeder> no distribution
22:32:35 <Schroeder> that's why I need a source tarball
22:38:49 <warlord> Oh. No distro? How did you even install it?
22:39:27 <Schroeder> ever hear of LFS?
22:39:35 <Schroeder> (and yes, that was said facetiously)
22:40:06 <warlord> LFS is still a distro.
22:40:30 <Schroeder> not really, no
22:40:31 <Schroeder> anyway
22:40:35 <Schroeder> where can I find source tarballs?
22:42:46 <Schroeder> can't find it on ftp.gnome.org
22:43:05 <Schroeder> and when I google for it, it comes up with a mailing list post that seems to imply that it's part of gnumeric
22:43:07 <Schroeder> so I download gnumeric
22:43:18 <Schroeder> but apparently not, because gnumeric's configure script requires it as a prerequisite too
22:46:27 <warlord> the RPM says http://freshmeat.net/projects/goffice/

23:37:32 <jsled> No. I've seen it before, but I don't know what it is.
23:37:58 <warlord> The SX was entered on 2007-02-10

23:51:00 <John> Hi, is there a default keyboard shortcut to open a register from the accounts tree?
23:51:58 <warlord> John: I do not believe so.. but you can add one.
23:52:11 <jsled> 'Return' works for me.:
23:52:16 <John> I'm running under windows, so I don't think there is any way I can set up shortcuts within an application from the operating system.
23:52:20 <warlord> jsled: It's kinda neat, but a little too strict in matching
23:52:38 <warlord> I thought the shortcut setting was a GTK feature?
23:53:41 <warlord> Oh, actually.. it DOES do broader matching now.
23:54:00 <John> I can't seem to figure out how to get into the GTK+ configuration from windows
23:54:38 <jsled> John: Does the Enter key not work?
