00:17:28 <quist> I would like to add some accounts to the income report.
00:18:03 <quist> How does one do this? I've tried adding by shift click but nothing really seems to work.

00:37:18 <andi5> moin moin is like "hi and i am having a pretty good time" :-)
00:37:52 <andi5> may you give me a sf mirror that actually ships your .exe? :)
00:44:22 <andi5> ah... maybe you just put them into incoming... which would be fine but required me to reboot twice... well... brb

11:17:13 <todd> so I don't know (warlord?) if you guys recall me mentioning about 9 months ago about kde slowing down gnucash
11:17:21 <todd> finally figured out what the deal was
11:17:38 <todd> turn off 'RENDER' in the x config and watch gnucash crawl
11:18:17 <warlord> Huh.
11:18:34 <warlord> Sounds like an issue with Gtk.. Same issue with other Gtk apps?
11:19:40 <warlord> Could you add this to the FAQ?

13:48:06 <edavison> how can I query the gnucash xml file for information about invoices?
13:50:24 <jsled> query how?
13:50:25 <warlord> Use the GnuCash API.

14:03:40 <todd> has anyone put any time into looking at the db interface for gnucash lately?
14:05:00 <jsled> the db interface? There's continuing work on the GDA branch, AFAICT.
14:05:28 <warlord> Yeah, are you talking about the ongoing GDA work?
14:06:02 <todd> ok, last time I checked (arguably a number of months back) it seemed to be idle for a bit
14:06:51 <todd> I also found it slightly humorous that the current gnucash branch talks about postgres being good, requiring atomic operations and a real sql backend, and the gda branch is heading towards mysql as a 1st cut, but anyway, I'll svn up that branch then and see what is up ;-)
14:07:16 <warlord> Actually, no, SQLite is the primary goal.
14:07:26 <todd> *blinks*
14:08:22 <todd> will a real db backend (postgresql/mysql/etc) be possible after sqlite works?
14:08:31 <todd> (in a fashion, with extra effort, etc) ?
14:09:06 <todd> I'm getting to a point in my business where I can't quite manage only one person in gnucash at once
14:09:23 <todd> so I may need to consider some time/sponsorship/something at some point down the road
14:09:26 <todd> ;-)
14:10:25 <todd> looks like I last checked on Nov 8
14:10:48 <warlord> The whole point of GDA is to be DB agnostic.
14:10:50 <todd> and the status file said 'Dec 9, 2006'
14:11:42 <warlord> Umm.. what branch are you looking at?
14:11:51 <todd> branch-gda-dev
14:12:34 <warlord> Yea, that's wrong.
14:12:37 <warlord> try gda-dev2
14:26:37 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
14:31:12 <todd> hmm, looking at that branch, it looks like it might even be somewhat useful. I'm looking for docs that describe gda specific stuff, but not finding it. does gda permit miliuser access with e.g. a postgresql backend yet?
14:43:43 <edavison> query how? that is the question. If I want to get some information
14:43:56 <edavison> from the gnucash file, like outstanding invoices, etc.
14:44:05 <edavison> is there a way to do this external to the GUI? so that I can use
14:44:12 <edavison> it in a script (PERL, bash, etc.)?
14:44:31 <edavison> what is the GnuCash API? URL for docs?

15:06:01 <rjohnson> Hi all, has anyone done a feature by feature comparison between gnucash and quicken? Or know of an article that addresses the two ?
15:08:31 <warlord> edavison: http://cvs.gnucash.org/docs/HEAD/
15:08:56 <warlord> rjohnson: None that I've heard of, but I encourage you to do one and put it on the wiki :)
15:09:14 <warlord> todd: It's unclear what the multi-user characteristics will be.
15:09:24 <warlord> let's get single-user working first, shall we?
15:09:30 <todd> heheh ;-)
15:09:43 <rjohnson> warlord: My mother always said, "He who opens his mouth geteth a job.. " :-)
15:10:18 <warlord> :-D
15:10:19 <todd> I have incentive. my wife and an employee who communicate to me try to decide when to get into gnucash .. its getting fun to orchestrate them

16:23:49 <edavison> on another note, I used to be able to select that page size (Letter) and margins when printing.
16:24:04 <edavison> Now, in 2.2.3 when I print to a file and choose Postscript, I get an A4 page.
16:24:11 <edavison> conversion to PDF chops off some of the content.

16:35:55 <edavison> any PERL examples anywhere?
16:36:56 <warlord> of course not. there are no PERL bindings to the API
16:37:46 <warlord> we have scheme.. and some people are working on python.
16:38:15 <edavison> ok, well I had to ask.
16:38:24 <warlord> heh
16:38:29 <edavison> how about getting Letter paper out of print to file rather than A4?
16:39:35 <warlord> Ummm.. I think that would be totally a local configuration parameter
16:39:52 <edavison> no that is now a Gnome setting rather than a GnuCash setting?
16:40:16 <edavison> great; that is one battle I have yet to be able to win?!@#$^
16:40:38 <edavison> One of these days I will have to hunt down that setting and get it fixed once and for all ...
16:40:44 <warlord> It's never been a gnucash setting.
16:40:48 <edavison> thanks!warlord:

16:47:30 <edavison> warlord: is it "safe" to work with the XML file directly to pull data for reports?
16:48:08 <warlord> it's safe to read it... But you shouldn't depend on the format staying consistent. We do make changes tot eh XML periodically.
16:48:57 <warlord> You'd be better-pressed writing a report in the gnucash reporting framework.
