09:38:40 <jeremy_> I'm having problems getting GNUCash 2.2.5 to run on a Windows box - it seems to install fine, but when I try to run it, it brings up a terminal that says setlocal, then chcp 1252, but nothing happens after that
09:41:20 <jeremy_> Anyone?

09:44:44 <warlord> Have you read the GnuCash on Windows Wiki page?
09:45:00 <jeremy_> I found a few things on the FAQ - where is the whole wiki?

09:45:27 <warlord> the page is "Windows"
09:46:21 <jeremy_> Great

11:42:56 <Meiriona> the problem is that in french the decimal is ",", and my keyboard does a "."

14:27:08 <jmr123> Hello All
14:27:54 <jmr123> Does anyone know how to create an expense report that also includes my liabilities as an expense as well. I am only seeing my expenses which I think should include my mortgage and car loan. Any ideas or pointers?
14:34:01 <jmr123> I know a cash flow report will show it but it does not give enough detail. Basically I want to flag a liability as an expense. Any ideas?

14:34:09 <jmr123> Does anyone know how to create an expense report that also includes my liabilities as an expense as well. I am only seeing my expenses which I think should include my mortgage and car loan. Any ideas or pointers?
14:34:45 <rhowe> jmr123: I think the cash flow report might be more what you're after
14:35:00 <jmr123> I know a cash flow report will show it but it does not give enough detail. Basically I want to flag a liability as an expense.
14:35:13 <jmr123> Hmmmm.... Yea, expense reports are nice though
14:35:23 <jmr123> you see profit, etc...
14:35:34 <jmr123> So, there is no way you know of?
14:35:45 <rhowe> well it's not an expense, really
14:35:53 *** findlay has quit IRC
14:36:05 <rhowe> so I guess not, but I'm no gnucash expert
14:36:22 *** findlay has joined #gnucash
14:36:33 <jmr123> yea, i know technically, but anyone you talk to about expenses, usually associate any outgoing as an expense
14:36:56 <jmr123> That is, car payment, house, grocieries, utilities ... then subtract that from income and you get your net
14:37:05 <rhowe> I guess you could bounce it through your expense account
14:37:07 <jmr123> Just nice to have a report that could do it.
14:37:09 <rhowe> wonder what that'd look like
14:37:26 <jmr123> Thought of that too. but seems convoluted
14:39:52 <jmr123> cash flow also doesn't give details into liabilities such as credit cards which happens to be where most of my expenses are paid. So, my expenses just have one line item that says liabilities:credit card:american express $x
14:40:22 <rhowe> you'd have to include the liability account too, I think
14:40:30 <rhowe> so you'd get the cash flow in and out of that account
14:42:45 <jmr123> Well, i am getting the liabilites, but it is showing just the total for the credit card, not what i paid into each expense from the credit card
14:45:00 <jmr123> So, i pay some expenses online from my bank and most of my expenses from my credit card. So the cash flow report shows each expense that I paid from my bank account in detial: utilities, church, etc.. but expenses paid from my credit card just shows the total amount paid for the month for that credit card in various expenses. Is this what you see when you do a cash flow report?
14:45:52 <rhowe> a cash flow report will say £x went from account foo to account bar
14:46:09 <rhowe> with total out = £y and total in = £z
15:05:25 <jmr123> ok, this is ridiculous, i am just going to move my liabilities into my expenses (car and house) and be done with it. Thanks for your help...

16:47:17 <vasanthv16> Seems like earlier versions of gnucash had more sophisticated reporting options where you can drill down into a report. But that is not available anymore? Is that correct?
16:48:07 <chris> vasanthv16: it's true. that was a side-effect of the switch from guppi to gog.
16:48:47 <chris> vasanthv16: you appear to be my IP neighbor.
16:48:58 <vasanthv16> Is there any plan on resurrecting such support? The reason I ask is, I have some iniitial thought on creating a reporting tool for gnucash. Wanted to get some idea about how useful/feasible it is.
16:49:22 <vasanthv16> chris: Is that so? Where are you from? I am in CT, USA.
16:49:30 <chris> RI
16:49:42 <vasanthv16> chris: ah...I see
16:50:35 <chris> there's no plan to go back to guppi, but afaik, there's nothing to prevent the same functionality with gog. it just hasn't been implemented.
16:52:08 <vasanthv16> If I do get into creating a reporting tool, it will be in java, and stand-alone. Not necessarily linked with gnucash.
16:54:07 <vasanthv16> I am more of a java programmer and I would be comfortable at that. Should I be creating some sort of a proposal and posting it to the developer mailing list?
16:54:28 <chris> you should feel free to do so.
16:54:33 <vasanthv16> hmm....
16:54:36 <vasanthv16> ok, thanks
