09:47:04 <StocksR> warlord: thanks
09:50:01 <StocksR> Next question then - when setting up the Scheduled Transaction the debit and credit cols include the word formula - what sort of formulas are allowed?
09:50:32 <warlord> Anything.
09:50:37 <warlord> It's a formula.
09:50:47 <StocksR> So can I put in things like 50% of total amount - and have total amount change each time?
09:51:04 <warlord> Sure. total*.5
09:51:20 <warlord> Any "word" is called a variable and you get asked for variables when you instantiate the SX.
09:51:53 <StocksR> cool thats really handy
09:53:08 * StocksR gees off to try that out.
09:55:17 <StocksR> are there any special reseverd variables - e.g. inbalance (for the remainder)
09:57:37 <warlord> No, but there are reserved functions. See fcn.scm

10:44:16 <StocksR> New Question - I have recived a payment schedual, goverment so it is very involved.
10:44:21 <StocksR> Basicly it reads as
10:44:38 <StocksR> £xx... on 13/6/2006
10:45:15 <StocksR> s/2006/2008/
10:45:22 <StocksR> £yy.yy every 4 weeks till 20/3/2009
10:45:39 <StocksR> £zz.zz on the 17/4/2009
10:46:07 <warlord> okay, that would be three SXes.
10:46:30 <warlord> Well, two -- you dont need to make the 2006-txn an SX; just insert it manually.
10:46:48 <StocksR> Thought so - msmoney let me edit a single instance of a future recuring transaction.
10:50:49 <warlord> maybe jsled can answer here.
10:52:19 <jsled> yeah, no, here you'd need one for the every-4-weeks, then a separate single-instance future-dated SX for the other.
10:53:27 <StocksR> Can I duplcate an SX?
10:53:53 <jsled> no.
10:54:15 <StocksR> Feature requests go where?

17:53:54 <tim_abell> hi all, i've just discovered the wonderful world of git. is anyone maintaining a public copy of gnucash in git? and are there any plans to move the project to git?
17:56:02 <jsled> I know a few people are using git-svn, but there's no public copy.
17:56:11 <jsled> There are no plans to move to git, no.

18:39:44 <warlord> git has its benefits. svk is based on svn.

21:02:29 <Pat_Whalen> I am interested in mass changes to basic data such as merging accounts. Where would the best place to discuss this be?
21:10:21 *** tim_abell has quit IRC
21:15:06 <jsled> here … or the gnucash-user or gnucash-devel mailing lists, depending on the nature of the change.
21:45:42 <Pat_Whalen> Is there a way to extract the accounting data in such a way it could be manipulated and re-imported?
21:46:28 <jsled> Well, the file format is not-entirely-crazy xml. So, you could munge that.
21:46:54 <jsled> But, you know, that's not supported and you're on your own and what not.
21:47:58 <jsled> One idea is to parse the xml from the datafile, then create QIF to import back in. Taht's doesn't necessarily sync with the existing transactions, though … which will break down progressively with how much you mutate the data.
21:49:45 <Pat_Whalen> Thanks jsled. I'll take a shot and let you know how it goes. I'm experimenting now anyway so no danger of breaking anything.
21:50:02 <jsled> What accounts do you want to merge?
21:50:28 <Pat_Whalen> Currently I use MS money with two currencies
21:51:00 <Pat_Whalen> So I extract the USD accounts and CAD accounts separately and import them separately.
21:51:25 <Pat_Whalen> So each process creates two version of some accounts.
22:13:12 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
22:13:25 <warlord> well, you need two versions of those accounts... one for USD and one for CAD
22:15:13 <Pat_Whalen> what happens is that I have a USD account where funds moved back and forth with a CAD account. ...
22:15:35 <Pat_Whalen> when I import the USD account, the CAD account gets created.
22:15:56 <Pat_Whalen> Likewise when I import the CAD account it creates a version of the USD account.
22:16:12 <Pat_Whalen> Somehow these two versions of each account need to be merged.
22:16:50 <warlord> QIF doesn't understand multi-currency
22:17:01 <warlord> So for QIF you cannot transfer from a USD to a CAD
22:17:07 <warlord> (or vice versa)
22:17:30 <Pat_Whalen> understood. That's why USD accounts need to be imported separately from CAD accounts.
22:19:09 <Pat_Whalen> but once imported I need to find a way to put humpty dumpty back together again.
22:20:53 <warlord> it's easy to merge usd->usd and cad->cad
22:21:24 <Pat_Whalen> how?
22:21:35 <warlord> delete the account. it will ask you for an account to merge the txns
22:21:40 <warlord> and it will then move them to that acct
22:22:22 <Pat_Whalen> thanks. I imagine it checks that the currencies are the same.
22:22:30 <warlord> i *think* so?
22:22:47 <Pat_Whalen> I've some experimenting to do. :-)
