07:42:49 <Guy-> hi
07:44:25 <Guy-> I'm new to gnucash; I'm trying to record a transaction where I bought some shares. The docs seem to say to enter the count and the price per share, and the total will be computed automatically. However, whatever I try, the price per share is changed to 1 (and the count is adjusted so that the total price stays the same).
07:44:32 <Guy-> how is this supposed to work?

09:26:40 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
09:27:01 <warlord> sounds like the Stock Account doesn't have a Stock for the commodity, but instead still has USD
09:34:41 <Guy-> how do I remedy that?
09:35:16 <Guy-> (is there a way to swtich the language of the program, once installed, to English? It's currently set to Hungarian, which makes communicating names of things somewhat harder)
09:36:17 <Guy-> I speak acceptable English, but my finance vocabulary is somewhat lacking, sorry :)
09:53:20 <warlord> Switch it by setting the LANG environment variable.
09:53:29 <warlord> (switch the language)
09:54:12 <warlord> As for the stock.. From the Account Chart, you should select the account, click Edit, and then you should be able to see the account type and commodity.
09:54:17 <warlord> (among other things)
09:56:05 <Guy-> so I need a separate account for each commodity?
09:57:16 <Guy-> I suppose that makes sense, in a way
09:57:20 <Guy-> OK, let me try this
09:58:29 <warlord> Yes, you need a separate account for each commodity.
09:58:31 <Guy-> when defining a new commodity, it wants to know the type, of which I have no idea - does it matter?
09:58:51 <Guy-> choices like amex, nasdaq, eurex, fund...
10:01:18 <Guy-> what I'm actually setting up is probably not traded outside the Budapest stock exchange (it's what you'd hopefully call an investment fund, buyable in denominations of 1 HUF, actually worth about 1.267 HUF per unit now)
10:01:41 <Guy-> so it's not the stock of a company
10:01:45 <warlord> Doesn't matter
10:02:47 <Guy-> OK
10:03:13 <warlord> The namespace is just a way to help you collate your stocks.
10:05:26 <Guy-> OK, it appears to work as expected this way, thanks
10:16:38 <warlord> good.

15:34:52 * andrewsw wonders why the default selection is to *not* save changes...
15:39:28 <benjamin> that would be because nobody's bothered to set the default and GTK defaults to, ah, defaulting to the leftmost button, I think
15:44:31 <andrewsw> remarkably sensible benjamin
15:44:57 <benjamin> remarkably sensible for me, or gtk?
15:45:06 <andrewsw> :)
15:45:08 <andrewsw> you
15:45:16 <benjamin> thank you so very much
15:45:18 <andrewsw> and gtk, I suppose. gotta pick something

17:54:47 *** andi5 changes topic to "Free GPL Personal and Small Business Accounting || Please don't ask to ask, just ask and wait! || publically-logged channel || latest stable: 2.2.8"
17:59:10 <warlord> andi5: pong
17:59:18 <andi5> ah cool :)
17:59:59 <andi5> given that i do not have a lot of time this week and will travel back "home" at the weekend, i wonder what the best way to release an italian-enabled win32 binary might be
18:01:20 <warlord> You mean should you replace the 2.2.8 installer with one with italian?
18:01:25 <andi5> i think it boils down to two questions: (1) how to build the binary, either just execute only build_docs once more and dist.sh again, or check in and completely rebuild; (2) replace the binary or not
18:01:53 <andi5> i think 2.2.8.1 is exaggerating :)
18:02:58 <andi5> i think i would just build the exe with the minimal set of instructions, replace the binary and write some mail to gnucash-devel and gnucash-user
18:03:45 <andi5> but honestly, i do not think it was my mistake :) i just could have asked before
18:05:18 <warlord> Well..... I know you would make someone very happy if you also included the fix to bug #564450 too ;)
18:05:35 <warlord> But that /would/ require a new build.
18:05:55 <andi5> and a new tarball
18:05:57 <warlord> I think you could just replace the 2.2.8 setup.exe
18:06:08 <warlord> ... with a new one with the IT docs.
18:06:17 <warlord> No need to rebuild everything...
18:06:43 <andi5> is it zoltan or fell?
18:07:58 <warlord> zoltan
18:08:05 <warlord> the HEF currency fix.
18:08:19 <warlord> Er, HUF
18:08:22 <andi5> i do not see it committed yet
18:08:22 <warlord> It
18:08:40 <warlord> No, it's not committed, but it's a simple 1-liner to the iso currency list
18:10:17 <andi5> anyway... *rebooting to build the exe*
