03:47:23 <giuseppef_> Hi, I am still refining a chart of accounts I'd like to contribute. I have looked at embedded charts and it seems it is usual to create placeholder accounts for "Equity, Assets, Liabilities, Revenues and Expenses". The question is: why? All reports uses (or can use) labels for sections ...

03:59:12 <fell> giuseppef_, I remember, I was not satified with chart of accounts without them.
04:01:32 <giuseppef_> The problem is that using those placeholders you cannot use labels in reports, because it seems a duplication of entries
04:01:33 <fell> And the selection of an account from the list was cumbersome.
04:02:23 <fell> IIRC at that time it was possible to hide the report labels.
04:02:30 <giuseppef_> this is true. This is way I use account numbers to order them, and colours too
04:05:40 <fell> In DE at schools they use the numbers from SKR03, but at university that from SKR04, so I preferred the tree.

09:21:58 <abend0c4> Good morning from Arlington, Viriginia, USA!
09:23:16 <abend0c4> I am trying to move my GnuCash plist file from one computer to another and every time I start GnuCash, it gets overwritten with a new one. GC 4.2 (just upgraded from 3.11)
09:23:54 <abend0c4> MacOS X, also
09:33:29 <giuseppef> Some weeks ago someone on it mailing list posted about a problem in reconciliation of credit card in 4.2, saying it works fine in 4.1. I cannot make test about this. Is there an issue or not?
09:40:45 <warlord> abend0c4, which "plist" file? If you mean your preferences, yes, GnuCash rewrites that frequently, but if you install it while gnucash is NOT running, it should read it in just fine (assuming it's "valid" in current schema)
09:49:05 *** field^Zzz4 has quit IRC
10:07:00 <abend0c4> ~/Library/Preferences/org.gnucash.Gnucash.plist
10:07:51 <abend0c4> I copied the 3.11 plist over to the new computer (running 4.2) and it created a new .plist file over the existing copied one.
10:08:39 <abend0c4> Then I upgraded the 3.11 machine to 4.1. Preferences preserved on that machine. Tried to copy it again, and the other machine still created new .plist over the copied one.
10:09:49 <abend0c4> One Mac is Mojave (copied from) and the other is catalina (copied to); not sure if that should matter.
10:10:29 <warlord> abend0c4, was gnucash running when you copied the plist into place?
10:10:41 <abend0c4> No
10:10:41 <warlord> And how are you testing that it "overwrote" the file?
10:11:55 <abend0c4> With Gnucash closed, I copy the plist file. I open Gnucash and the size of the plist files goes from 7390 bytes to 1606 bytes (and all preferences are set to defautls)
10:12:11 <abend0c4> File size and modified time changes
10:12:57 <warlord> Hmm. well, when jralls wakes up maybe he can help you
10:13:16 <abend0c4> I ran with --debug and I don't see antyhing about attempting to load preferences, but it's very chatty and I haven't had that much coffee yet, so I might have missed it
10:15:16 <abend0c4> It's annoying and possibly a bug, but the big thing was that I thought I lost my account colors, but they're (sensibly) stored in the chart of accounts.
10:15:35 <abend0c4> Just the option to display them had changed with the reset preferences.
10:18:16 <abend0c4> Strange though: Now that I've saved new preferences in 4.2, they're persistent.
10:31:58 <abend0c4> I'll investigate a bit more and maybe file a bug report.
