08:11:35 <chris> warlord: any idea what's the purpose of having both gnc_commodity_equal and gnc_commodity_equiv? IIRC you mentioned in irc, two commodities referring to USD will have the same pointer irrespective where we obtain the commodity.

08:19:27 <warlord> chris, I'd have to go look at the code to see. It's been a while.
08:22:41 <warlord> Okay, so... equal is doing a very deep compare, and will even compare "across books". On the other hand, equiv only tests within the same book and same 'quark'.
08:23:23 <warlord> equiv only tests for the same name space and mnemonic..

09:24:45 <fell> Is it intended, to allow editing trading accounts?
09:40:08 *** Pegasus_RPG has joined #gnucash
09:40:21 <warlord> fell, I suspect not, but there really isn't a good way to prevent that, I don't think.
09:41:24 <fell> If account type = … reject editing
09:42:15 <DeluxeWarPlaya> @jralls Thats the answer I was looking for.
09:42:15 <gncbot> DeluxeWarPlaya: Error: "jralls" is not a valid command.
09:42:18 <warlord> What about editing from the "other" side? What if you need to delete a trading-account split/transaction because it's broken or you adjusted the transaction?
09:49:59 <fell> warlord: The splits can be delete. That is the comfortabe way to update them after editing thecore transaction.
09:51:02 <warlord> But if you make the register uneditable, how do you delete it? Or are you saying to allow editing from the other account only?
09:53:12 <fell> No, not the Register. Edit->Account is available.
09:53:48 <fell> And there I can give it any nonsense name, ...
09:54:07 <warlord> OH. Hmm...

11:38:40 <chris> warlord: thx -- seems gnc_commodity_equiv makes sense when theoretically >1 book open
11:39:28 <warlord> maybe. It's less of a check. For example, 'equal' makes sure the SCU is the same, but equiv doesn't.
11:40:01 <warlord> so equiv will tell you that CURRENCY:USD <1> and CURRENCY:USD <2> are the same, but "equal" would say they are not..

12:36:48 <gjanssens> warlord: I was discussing with linas on setting up a common admin diary to keep track of changes made to the webserver container.
12:37:02 <gjanssens> My suggestion was to set up a protected page on our wiki
12:37:22 <gjanssens> Protected in that only the core devs have access to it.
12:37:30 <gjanssens> Can I set up such a page ?
12:37:36 <warlord> I.... don't know.
12:37:39 <warlord> fell?
12:38:27 <gjanssens> Well, it can be you to set it up as well. It just needs to have limited access.
12:38:59 <fell> write-protection is no problem, but I don't know about read protection
12:41:46 <fell> As you are here. I heard, you can not access the wiki from inside PR China.
12:42:24 <fell> The great firewall is blocking any mediawiki based page.
12:45:31 <gjanssens> https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Preventing_access#Restrict_viewing suggests mediawiki is not the tool for this job...

13:16:02 <warlord> We could certainly put it in a separate repo.. unclear if we can copy it to github.
13:50:46 <warlord> gjanssens, and for the record, the reason I brought fell into it is that he's more of a mediawiki guru than I am, so he'd know more if it's even possible.

18:44:58 <Argensis> Hi, so I'm wondering how best to enter RSUs into gnucash. The way they work in my company is I get a grant denominated in my employer's shares. In yearly increments, portions of them convert to USD at my employer's current stock price, then whatever my tax rate is that year is deducted. The remainder gets converted to EUR and sent to my bank account.
18:45:33 <Argensis> So what I've done is I've set the RSUs up as a stock account, and for the last year's transactions manually gone back and set them up as split transactions, between my bank account and a tax expense
18:45:42 <Argensis> But there's two issues
18:46:12 <Argensis> 1. The full amount of pending RSUs show up as assets when 50-ish% goes to taxes on vest date so it's not really an asset I'll ever see.
18:46:27 <Argensis> 2. The paid out RSUs don't get listed as income, as they're just seen as moving assets around
18:46:33 <Argensis> So wondering if there's a better way to set it up
18:47:53 <Argensis> (For both my bank account and the stock plan account I just get csv exports, it's not linked to anything)

21:22:16 <linas> warlord, fell, gjanssens yes, mediawiki supports private wikipages, its not that hard to set up, but you do have to rtfm. I set it up once 5-6 years ago. It worked.
