18:19:56 <jralls> Yazinator, the tracefile should always exist after a GnuCash run, though it may be empty. You can check for datafile-name.gnucash.LCK in the same directory as datafilename.gnucash to make sure that GnuCash closed it properly.
18:44:46 <Yazinator> Okay. If the .LCK file is there, does that show that the file was closed properly? I've checked $TMPDIR and am coming up empty in Asahi Linux. Does the absence of gnucash.trace indicate something? (I thought that a trace file would always be present.)

19:30:50 <jralls> No, if the LCK file is still there after you quit GnuCash or switch files then it didn't finish closing the file and you'll get the can't get the lock dialog when you next try to open that file.
19:58:00 <Yazinator> Thanks for all of your help, @jralls. I should assume that the trace file exists somewhere on Asahi Linux (and I just haven't found it)? There isn't a scenario where GnuCash ran and no trace file was produced?
20:01:05 <jralls> Yazinator, There should always be a tracefile though it may be empty. You can run GnuCash with --debug to make sure that it's not empty. You can also use the --logto option to specify where to write it, including stdout or stderr to write to the terminal session.
