21:22:03 <Sleet5410> I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for how to handle this scenario. I am using gnucash to track my sole proprietor/business finances and am not quite sure about the mechanics of splitting things such as rent for a home office between my sole proprietorship and me personally. Should I manually record the percentage of each of these expenses which are for business (ie, 30% of home is office, so only record 30% of rent in
21:22:03 <Sleet5410> gnucash), or is there a better way to do things with splitting transactions?
21:56:53 <phebus> Sleet5410: Since those books are for the business, I would probably record just the amount the business is paying as an expense; but, keep good records (a separate spreadsheet with the full amount and percent split). You could also note the full amount and percent paid as a memo on the transaction in GnuCash.
21:58:10 <Sleet5410> ok cool, thanks!
21:58:15 <phebus> If someone has a better idea, please chime in. But, I think that's a reasonable way to handle it.
21:58:20 <phebus> No prob. Good luck.
