where to get ghttp?

I am pretty sure, that ghttp is included in SuSE 6.4, probably in the
gnm series, maybe in the d series. But if you want to compile the developement
version of GnuCash the gnome of SuSE 6.4 (and even 7.0) is too old.
In this case I recommend installing helix gnome (www.helixcode.com)
and even then you need some rpms of the not yet standard "evolution"
package.

I recently updated doc/build-suse.txt, please refer to this file.

The "see README" is the standard output of autogen.sh resp. configure,
if anything fails. Perhaps we should at least say in the README: If anything
fails, see doc/build-*.txt, too.
