Probs compiling 1.4.12 on RH 6.2

Hi
I cannot get 1.4.12 to compile on RH 6.2. I had exactly the same error
message with 1.4.11 and gave up trying to make it work as I thought it may
be something broken in my 6.2 installation. I have now reinstalled 6.2
from scratch, updated its rpms and it still has the same problem.
I have g-wrap-0.9.12 installed.
Errors:
All seem similar to this with just a variation in line number and the
reference to being scm_***;
/root/gnucash-1.4.12/src/guile/gnc.c:7936: undefined reference to
'scm_set_smob_equalp'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [gnucash] Error 1
