importing qif batch

In trying to set up gnucash, I noticed that the file dialog forgets where I
was, so that if I have a bunch of qifs in a common directory, I have to
navigate back to that same directory over and over again. Is that
configurable behavior?

Actually, with large collections of qifs, a command line interface would be
much more useful than the gui. Is there one?

Are there XML schemas for the files gnucash uses? If not, I'll be happy to
write them if you can point me to the documentation for them. Thanks!
