Error building gnucash

I have tried gnucash 1.6.8, 1.7.1, 1.7.2 and the latest cvs and I keep
crashing dureing make. When it gets to the gnome-utils stuff it craps
out and says: libtool: link: cannot find the library
`/usr/local/lib/libaudiofile.la`

Problem is, it is in /usr/lib/libaudiofile.la. Does anyone know how to
get around this? I am trying to build it for inclusion in our
distribution.
