Well now that you bring this up, the route that GNOME decided on for
GNOME2 was basically to place advanced preferences in gconf, this way
users would see a fairly simple interface and advanced users (such as
yourself) would still have all the functionality they wanted. All the
above are good suggestions that actually go a little further than I was
trying to.
